Purpose of serialization


Serialization tracks the life cycle of parts for which value and function are important over time. You typically serialize parts that are rebuildable, such as starters, alternators, transmissions, or wheel sets.

Some fleets remove parts, evaluate the core for internal or external rebuilding, and track their movement. Other fleets with many standard vehicles may replace and remove parts or engine assemblies where individual parts are tracked for defect management to better evaluate part life performance within or outside of warranty.
