Preventive maintenance (PM) programs

In a preventive maintenance program, you define the parameters at which a specific PM service should be performed on an individual equipment unit or for equipment units in a particular class. PM programs help you monitor conditions, record measurements, and record and report exceptions.

The PM program parameters include a period of elapsed time, the equipment meter usage, and/or the amount of fuel consumed by the equipment.

There are two types of PM programs:

Class PM program

Applies to all equipment units in an equipment class that are assigned to a class PM program (see the Basic Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Units -> Fleet Equipment screen). A class PM program includes a repeating sequence of PM services and a specification of time and optional meter and fuel consumption intervals between the services, which comprise a PM service pattern. The number of different services provided in the pattern depends upon the number of unique services required to maintain equipment units assigned to the class.

Individual PM program

Applies to specific equipment units, regardless of their class, which are assigned to an individual PM program (see the Basic Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Units -> Fleet Equipment screen). An individual PM program consists of a list of PM services, each of which is performed at specified time intervals with optional meter and fuel consumption intervals. Several services may be due at the same time.

Individual PM programs can be used for "one-off" pieces of equipment that do not fit into the class-based cycle. They are also useful if you do not want PM services to be linked in a cycle to other services.
