Transferring parts through a central parts location

The following scenario illustrates how to use the Intended for location ID field on the Basic Info tab of the Data -> Parts Activity -> Stock Transfers screen.

Location B is a central warehouse for parts. Locations A and C are locations that stock an inventory of parts. The organization observes the policy of always transferring parts through location B.

Location A requires a part that it does not have in stock. It processes a transfer which includes the following values:

REQUEST TRANSFER

From location ID

Location ID for B (location B processes all parts transfers, so the part will come from there)

To location ID

• Location ID for A (the part needs to go to location A)

• Location B does not have the stock in inventory, but location C does. Location B requests that location C transfer the part to location B for disbursal to location A. Because the part will now come from location C and to location B, location B processes the transfer as follows:

REQUEST TRANSFER

From location ID

Location ID for C (the part will now be coming from C)

To location ID

Location ID for B (the part will now be coming to B)

Intended for location

• Location ID for A (the part is ultimately intended to be transferred to A,)

• Location C sends the part to location B and processes the transfer as follows:

SEND PARTS OUT

Location B receives a notice (print message) of the transfer (if printing is active).

When the parts arrive at location B, B processes the transfer as follows:

MODIFY DATA

To location ID

Location ID for A (location B will send the part to A, which is the location in the Intended for location field).

Intended for location ID

• Blank

• Location B sends the part to location A.

• Location A receives a notice (print message) of the transfer (if printing is active).

• When the parts arrive at location A, location A processes the transfer as follows:

The transfer is now complete.
