Prompt Function

The Prompt function instructs the system to prompt you for a value when you run a query or report.

If you choose Prompt, a prompt expression displays in the top area of the tab. Position the cursor between the colon and the closing angle bracket (>) and type the label for the prompt. This label appears as the title of a prompt window when you run the query or report.

To insert a prompt:

Step 1.  Position the cursor in the top area.

Step 2.  Type <PROMPT:>.

Step 3.  Position the cursor between the colon and the closing angle bracket (>).

Step 4.  Type the label for the prompt.

You can type additional parts of the restriction rule, such as filter information, directly in the top area of the tab. If your organization has user groups that use different report formats to print data from the same screen, it can be useful to specify different filter restrictions to the report for each group. Refer to Defining query/report filter restrictions for specific user groups.
