How to select data items


To select table items from the Data Items tab of the Query/Reports -> Query/Report Generator screen in order to include them in a query or report, use the following procedure. You must select at least one table and at least one table item.

Step 1.  To access information about a particular type of entity or relationship, select the table or tables which correspond to that type of entity or relationship from the list of tables in the left area of the tab. There is no limit to the number of tables you can include; however, each table you choose (after the first table) must have a logical relationship or connection to one or more of the tables you chose previously. To ensure that this condition is met, FASuite removes unrelated tables from the list as you make your selections.

Step 2.  To add or remove a table:

Add - To add a table to the query or report, select the table name in the list of table names in the left area of the tab and click on the Select button to the right of the list. There is no limit to the number of table items you can include in a query or report.

FASuite displays each table you select in the center area of the tab.

Remove - To remove a table from the query or report, select the table name in the list of selected tables in the center area of the tab and click on the Remove button to the left of the list.

Step 3.  To display the list of items available in a table:

Double-click on the table name in the center area of the tab or click on the Plus button to the left of the table item.

To hide the list of items available in a table:

Double-click on the table name or click on the Minus button to the left of the table name.

Step 4.  To display the attributes (type, length, and number of decimal places) for a table item listed in the center area of the tab:

Display the list of items available in a table (see step 3). Double-click the table item name or click the Plus button to the left of the table item name.

The attributes display underneath the table item in the following order:

type
length
number of decimal places

To hide the attributes:

Double-click the table item or click the Minus button to the left of the table item.

Step 5.  To add a table item to the query or report, select the table item in the center area of the tab and click the Select button to the right of the list.

Each table item displays in the right side of the tab.

Step 6.  To display the default heading name as well as the attributes (type, length, and number of decimal places) for a table item in the right area of the tab:

When the table item is displayed in the right side of the tab, double-click the table item or click the Plus button to the left of the table item name.

The default heading name and the attributes display the table item name in the following order:
default heading name
type
length
number of decimal places.

To hide the default heading name and attributes:

Double-click the table item, or click the Minus button to the left of the table item.

Step 7.  After you select one or more columns from the database, you can continue to the User defined Items tab to specify other items to include in the query or report.
