Unit of measure conversion


Units of measure are used to order parts, receive parts, and issue parts. In Enterprise Purchasing, you can record different units of measure (UOMs) for purchase orders and receipts and they will be automatically converted to parts location issue units upon receipt. The unit of measure for orders or receipts must be associated with the unit of measure on the parts location record.

This new functionality enables you to order parts in large quantities and track them in smaller units at each parts location. Because unit of measure is used when parts are both ordered and received, the quantities at the location are always correct, based on the location’s unit of measure. Thus, if numbers are changed in the parts location record or the part location counts table, quantities and values based on the purchase issue factor (PIF) are updated accordingly. In addition, UOM determines the number of receipt labels to print.

Example: There are 24 parts in a case, so ordering one case results in 24 parts on hand. The line item entry of one CASE for a location, however, will indicate 24 parts on order instead of 1 part on order.
