The Renumbering screen enables you to renumber task IDs and merge two task IDs.
When an item is renumbered, the old ID is replaced with the new ID throughout the application. Test result task IDs also are renumbered when task IDs are renumbered. When the process is complete, it is as if the old ID never existed.
A similar process occurs in the case of a merge. When you merge one ID into another existing ID, it will be as if the old ID never existed and was always part of the surviving ID. Perform a merge only when you are certain that all history does in fact belong to the surviving ID. If it does not, then there are probably other procedures you can follow as an alternative, such as inactivating the old ID so that it can no longer be used.
When you process an insert on this screen, Release replaces all occurrences of the value in the Old task ID field with the value in the New task ID field. The history of entries made under the old task ID are reassigned to the new task ID, so be sure that the two task IDs have always been similar enough to be considered the same. This process may take a considerable amount of time, depending on the number of database entries for the old task ID.
Note: When renumbering tasks, if the task is renumbered to a number of digits different than the Repair group task IDs are __ digits option on the Options tab of the Shop Activity - Setup - Options screen, a warning will display. For example, if renumbering a task ID with two digits to an ID with three digits, such as task 04 to task 004, and the above option is set to 2 digits, you will see a warning.
Data in the fields in the bottom section of this tab specify the change. Unless otherwise indicated, these fields are required.
Old task ID
Old identifier of the task. It must be a valid task ID. This field has a list box. The task description displays to the right of the ID.
Task IDs are defined on the Data -> Shop Activity -> Setup -> Tasks -> Primary Information screen.
New task ID
New identifier of the task. If you want to merge the task history of the old task ID into the new task ID, the latter must already be defined. If so, the task description displays to the right of the ID.
Note: If you renumber a task to an existing ID, the history for the two tasks will be merged.
Confirm merge - renumber to an existing task ID
If you are renumbering an existing task ID and merging two tasks, you must acknowledge your action by placing a check in this field. If the task ID does not already exist, you may leave this field blank.
