How do I set up an Intermec printer to print barcode labels? |
You can use Intermec printers to print screen labels through a serial, LPT, or network (NIC) connection. Label types include bin labels, receipt labels, control labels, parts transfers, and reports.
To set up an Intermec printer, you first need to set up the printer and computer to communicate. You then need to set up FleetAnywhere, CommAnywhere, or RailAnywhere to use the correct printer codes.
Step 1. Install the following files on whichever computer the printer will use.
set1.cmd and set2.cmd (DOS command scripts; COM1 and COM2, respectively)
binlab.txt (Intermec printer commands)
Step 2. Use the Intermec null modem cable to connect the printer to either the COM1 or COM2 communications port on the computer.
Step 3. Shut off the printer.
Step 4. Reboot the computer.
Step 5. Move or copy the set1.cmd or set2.cmd file to the root of your C:\ drive.
Step 6. Save your changes.
Step 7. Run the set1.cmd or set2.cmd file from a DOS prompt:
a. Type c:\set1.cmd (or c:\set2.cmd)
b. Press Enter.
Step 8. Turn on the printer.
Step 9. Find the binlab.txt you unzipped in step 1. Move or copy it to the root of your C:\ drive.
Step 10. From a command prompt, perform a test print:
a. Type copy binlab.txt com1
Note: If you are using com2, type copy binlab.txt com2.
b. Press Enter.
If the printer prints one label for the part NUTS AND BOLTS, the test was successful and the printer and computer are set up and communicating correctly.
Step 11. Set up the label printer types, printer devices/queues, and reports to use the correct codes.
