(To use bar codes, the optional Bar Code module must be installed.) If your scanner has difficulty scanning bar code patterns generated on a dot matrix printer, perform the following adjustments, in order:

Step 1.  Make sure you hold the scanner at about a 45-degree angle to the paper.

Step 2.  If you use a hand-held device, press the ON key while you scan.

Step 3.  If the patterns are lighter than a medium dark gray, replace the printer ribbon.

Step 4.  On the Bar Code Printers tab of the System Mgmt -> Setup -> Printers -> Standard Printer Types screen, in the Bar code spacing type field, change the value from NARROW to WIDE to adjust the spacing between the vertical bars; if the lines are sharp enough, a narrow pattern will be easier to scan than a wide one.

Step 5.  On the Bar Code Printers tab of the System Mgmt -> Setup -> Printers -> Standard Printer Types screen:

• In the Number of rows field, increase the number of rows

• In the Transfer data 1 field, decrease the line spacing
