Classes

The Classes tab enables you to display and assign equipment units to classes for various purposes and to SLA (service level agreement) equipment categories.

The Rail Equipment screen supports location level and department-level access control, so you must belong to a user group with the applicable authorizations to make changes or updates.

Detail View Header

The field in the top section of this tab defines the data that displays.

Equipment ID

Identifier of the equipment unit currently selected in the grid or that you are defining. This field has a list box. The equipment unit year, manufacturer, and model display to the right of the ID.

When you insert an equipment unit with an asset category that supports automatic numbering and this field is blank, the system generates an equipment ID that follows the format specified in the Custom ID structure field on the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Asset Categories screen. If you specify an ID and the equipment’s asset category supports automatic numbering, the ID is not overwritten.

Whether an asset category supports automatic numbering is specified on the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Asset Categories screen.

New equipment unit

Press the New equipment unit button to activate the New Equipment Wizard, which steps you through entering the basic data elements associated with a new equipment unit.

Detail View

The data in the fields in the bottom section of this tab define the classes for equipment units. Unless otherwise indicated, these fields are required.

Equipment class for:

The equipment class for each of the subsequent categories. These fields have zoom buttons to the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Class -> Primary Information screen, on which equipment class IDs are defined, and list boxes of equipment class IDs that have a check in their corresponding fields on the Functions tab of that screen. The class name displays to the right of the ID.

Maintenance

Equipment class to which the unit is assigned for maintenance cost tracking and analysis. This class is used to prepare the PR:RA-REPL ANALYSIS MODEL report. The comeback range for the classes is defined in the Comeback range (days) field on the Meter Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Class -> Primary Information screen. This class is displayed in the Equipment class for maintenance field on the Assignments tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Usage -> Meter Readings – Assignments – Usage screen and the Class and Location Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Management -> Assignment History screen.

PM program

Equipment class to which the unit is assigned to identify the applicable preventive maintenance (PM) program. The class' PM program is defined on the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Class -> Primary Information screen.

Standards

Equipment class to which the unit is assigned to identify the applicable cost and labor standards. Cost and labor standards are defined on the Standards tab of the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Class -> Class/Task Information screen.

Rental rates

Equipment class to which the unit is assigned to identify the applicable rental rates. The rental rates and maximum usage gap for the class are defined on the Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Class -> Primary Information screen.

Resources

Equipment class for which the unit is assigned for the purpose of specifying the shop resources (labor, bays, parts, and tools) required to perform each PM service and repair task and the standard jobs allowed to be performed on the unit. This class controls resource requirements for shop scheduling of work for units in the class.

When the Tasks tab of the Data -> Shop Activity -> Work Order Center screen specifies tasks for an equipment unit assigned to this class, you can use the Parts Required tab of the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Class -> Class/Task Information screen to specify that a parts list be printed on the work order.

SLA equipment category

Category of equipment to which this unit belongs for service level agreements (SLAs). This field displays the SLA equipment category that the Basic Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Management -> Service Level Agreements -> Primary Information screen assigns to the service level agreement ID, but you can change it. This field has a list box. The category description displays to the right of the field.

Benchmarking class type

Type of class used for benchmarking the equipment unit. This field has a list box of class types.

Asset category ID

Identifier of the asset category. This field has a list box. The asset category description displays to the right of the ID.

System grouping

The system to which the asset belongs. For example, a facility (building) asset would have a mechanical system that includes HVAC and furnace components, and an exterior system that includes painting, outside walls, and windows.

The Asset Viewer in the Shop Activity Portals in FA Web Modules displays the component tree grouped by child asset system group.

Emergency class ID

Assign an emergency class ID to equipment. This class lets equipment still receive fuel in an emergency if the ICU is configured for such events. This should be a numeric entry for ease of use with the ICU.
